In the role of Safety and Security Coordinator, you will be assisting with the development of the design with respect to safety and security. Your exposure will be to the entire project and will necessitate some flexibility of understanding and willingness to span disciplines. This role will be an interface with senior staff and will require critical thinking and analysis and rapid turnaround of results. You will be overseen by experienced and licensed professionals but will gain valuable exposure to Infrastructure Ontario’s new Alternative Finance Projects which will be invaluable to your early career and building your EIT experience.

You will be tasked with conducting analyses, gathering data and evidence from the designers, working with all disciplines and exposed to an entire project lifecycle of a typical rail project and gaining valuable knowledge from world-leading experts in many areas.

Role and General Responsibilities

  • Performs duties related to the Safety and Security of the project design.
  • Coordinate with Mobilinx partners.
  • Attend and gather records of meetings, decisions, and data.
  • Assistance with management of Data for the DOORS databases and general administration duties related to coordination with technical groups.
  • Update and review hazard and security logs.
  • Review of records and evidence or gather records from other disciplines.
  • Assist in the production of reports and documents.
  • Tracking and documenting project schedule activity, start, finish, % complete and major milestones for the Safety and Security deliverables.
  • Tracking and collection of documentation for extra work and engineering submittals.
  • Promote safety and security within disciplines and assist in the proliferation of good practices.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with clients.
  • Assists Project Managers and work package lead.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Or BEng. Electrical /Electronic Engineering or Mechatronics or related program.
  • Engineering Intern (EIT) or working to licensure.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a related technical role.
  • Previous work experience (on-site experience) in construction-related fields or similar enterprises.
  • Strong computer skills (i.e. Microsoft Office, AutoCAD).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and discipline to work independently.
  • An excellent grasp of the English language is essential (Read/write/speak).
  • Command of professional engineering law.

 Preferred Skills

  • An ability to prepare documents and interpret flowcharts, schedules, drawings, and step-by-step action plans.
  • Solid organizational skills, including multitasking and time management.
  • Strong client-facing and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to changing conditions.
  • Familiarity with civil, mechanical, and electrical systems.
  • Familiarity with safety processes and quality assurance control.
  • Clean driving record and ability to travel as required.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work to strict deadlines.
  • Ability to build relationships and work effectively with a team.
  • Self-motivated, flexible, reliable, innovative, committed, and honest.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills.
